If you're a Brisbane electrician wondering where the money is, industrial work is the short answer. It pays more than commercial or domestic in every city, and Brisbane pays it the most.
SEEK, refreshed 1 October 2026:
The bottom of Brisbane's industrial band is level with the top of the general electrician band.
Industrial electricians work in plants, factories, processing sites, ports and utilities. The work is mostly maintenance and breakdown, not new installs:
Brisbane's industrial areas cover the port, the airport precinct and the manufacturing suburbs to the south and west. Many sites run shifts.
The work is higher risk, the equipment is more complex, and downtime costs the client money by the minute. A site will pay for an electrician who can find a fault on a production line fast. Shift work and shutdowns add penalty rates on top.
In Queensland, an electrical mechanic licence covers all electrical work. Some industrial roles accept an electrical fitter licence, which covers equipment but not installation wiring. Know which you hold before you apply. Our post on Queensland electrical licence classes explains the difference.
HJ Recruitment places permanent electricians with employers in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. See the roles we're recruiting for now, or get in touch.
